A Guide for the Youth of Today: Brittany Phillips' How Did You Get Here

The youth of today is burdened with every distraction one cannot imagine. Some influences seem to be good but would lead them to a direction not meant for them. Many social media personalities have tried to be the beacon of light to today's youth, yet sometimes, they, too, are caught on their own ideas and interests. Author Brittany Phillips begs to differ as her book's compelling compilation of success stories might be the proper guide to the young generation.

Released in 2017 by Authorhouse, How Did You Get Here is the book written to help guide today's youth, pushing them towards the right direction. Phillips' premise is simple 一 to show the youth that success comes in many different shapes, forms, and fashions. The book is comprised of stories documenting the lives of the people who became successful in their lifetime, including their struggles and the decisions that made them the way they are now.

Phillips is a proud 30-year-old African American, a single mother of a beautiful 4-year-old daughter. Having finished a bachelor's degree in Business Management and a master's degree in Business Administration from HBCU Prairie View A&M University, she was blessed to become a speaker having the ability to share her experiences and her success story with others. Her work in education has helped her grow as a mother and understand more about helping other people, eventually establishing a non-profit organization called H.E.L.P (Healing Each other & Loving our Peeps) in October of 2020. The organization is focused on youth and community development by providing education and opportunities that are typically hard to achieve. Apart from that, she also hosts her own radio show called Real Talk and Relationships with B, where she invites businesses and artists for people to be able to learn from and is planning to write two more books in the near future that is set to educate the youth of today gearing them towards the right future.

Being a woman of color, she knows that her ancestors did not have it easy and did not have the kind of wealth that can be passed down through generations. However, her ancestors built upon a legacy, one that is founded on learning and working hard to enable them to pass on the knowledge and wealth of their own. While success cannot be easily achieved by reading a book, Phillips provides a perspective, one that is based upon knowledge and years of learning people of different ethnicities, backgrounds, and origins. Her own question inspired her, "How Did You Get Here," to write the book as she has faced some hardships in life but is now in the place where she is supposed to be. While people will always say to follow our dreams, Phillips offers an explanation, a starting point that will enable a person to achieve their dreams.

Readers would be able to find themselves reflecting and pondering about these stories and make them realize things that they have never learned before.
