Getting Over Mr. Zane – A Story of Heartbreak and Redemption?

When was the first time you fell in love and broke your heart? Both of these are familiar to us. At one point, we've all experienced the crushing feelings of heartache and the restorative justice of redemption – the victory of building ourselves up again from the chaos.

Unfortunately, such situations typically revolve around more than just your emotions. There comes the reality of having to see your ex still, getting yourself a new beau, and moving on with your life. There are also issues of power relations and public judgment that you may have to deal with while mending your heart.

If you're interested in reading about the thrills of life and love taken to the extreme, you'll love reading a few pages of Getting Over Mr. Zane – Stepping Out by Harry Stefano. And perhaps, you won't be able to stop. It takes all the familiar feelings we associate with a relationship (as complicated as that might be) into a more in-depth and darker level. Harry Stefano tells the story of three people from multiple perspectives: a frustrated and powerful ex-lover whose obsession with the protagonist is only matched by his thirst for vengeance, an extramarital lover whose life was turned upside down when his affair was exposed, and the protagonist who suffered from the public's wrath and the loss of both her lovers.

Harry Stefano employed a first-person narrative in creating our protagonist's world without making it feel like you're reading diary entries. She successfully created a world within her book from only this perspective, inviting us to know exactly how she thinks and what she feels as she goes through an extremely challenging time in her life.

Although heartbreak is a focal point in the book, Stefano managed to flesh this emotion with such depth that the further you go into the book, the more you realize that everything she does is in response to this heartbreak – including her attempts to rationalize all of her decisions and rise up from her social and emotional ruin. You may not be in the same place right now, but this page-turner maintains relatability.

In Getting Over Mr. Zane, every woman's biggest nightmare comes true: becoming a social outcast with no love from anyone but herself. Our heroine will try to claw her way back to reality and find her happiness again. Will she succeed? You'll have to find out for yourself.
